Fall means soup weather, and I just made a big pot of beef stew.
- set out the soup pot
- set out the cutting board
- grab your knife
- pour vegetable oil into the pot
- cut the round steak into stew-size pieces
- brown
- dice a large onion
- add to the beef
- add two beef bouillon cubes
- add a generous amount of brown gravy mix
- add water (6 to 8 cups)
- add a few handfuls of pearl barley
- let boil while cutting up four celery stalks
- and four carrots
- add to pot
- cook for 15 minutes
- cut up four potatoes
- add to pot after the 15 minutes
- cook for 10 minutes
- cut up green cabbage
- add to pot and cook 12 more minutes
- add pepper
- serve with cheese and bread
- serves 10
This will be good today, but better tomorrow.
